Week 2 - Day 1: Committing Your Personality

What would it look like to commit your entire personality to God? Would that mean losing your identity? Would it mean never again struggling with what God wants you to do? Even Jesus struggled when He was temped. But even though you struggle, God provides a way to accomplish His will in you when you commit your entire personality to Him.

Think of your personality as your will, mind, body, emotions and life. Read the following verses and think about how each verse speaks about the parts of your personality.

Will: Philippians 2:13
God works in you to provide the will and the ability to do His good pleasure

Mind: Romans 12:2 God renews your mind so that you can prove that His will is good, pleasing, and complete.

Body: Romans 12:1
God tells you to present your body as living sacrifice to Him as your reasonable service; Jesus encourages you to pray because your body is weak.

Emotions: Galatians 5:19-24
The Holy Spirit produces the fruit of the Spirit in you to replace evil emotions and actions.

Life: Galatians 2:20
Christ lives in you when you are crucified with Him, and He provides the power to do His will.

Daily Thoughts: What did you get from today’s study?

What specific element of your personality will be the most difficult for you to conform to God’s will?

When you think about setting aside old traits and becoming more like Christ, you can picture tearing down an old house and building a new one. What will you tear down and replace to become more like Christ? Read Galatians 5:16-25 and pray about what changes you need to make in your life.

  1. I think my personality... sometimes I can be very sarcastic, and say things that are just uncalled for. So in emotions, I guess that would be self control for the mouth! It's definitely something I am tearing down!

  2. I believe that renewing your mind is most important, because your mind will often make you feel as if you’re just not good enough to fellow CHRIST. He made it clear in His Word that if you stay focused on Him he will give you the strength to over come your minds weakness. John 15:5
