Day 3: Jesus followed God's will

Today’s daily reading is an example of Jesus doing His Father’s will. Jesus sought God’s will while He was on earth and did not seek to do His own will. Would a person deliberately wish humiliation, anguish, and death for himself? If Jesus could have had His way, would He have chosen for friends and family to reject Him and for crowds to mock and scorn Him? Jesus experienced these things because they were part of His Father’s perfect will, not because He wanted them.

Jesus’ commitment to God’s purpose made His ministry on this earth effective. Your development in every part of your Christian life depends on your commitment to God’s purpose. Let Jesus be your example and guide in doing God’s will.

Read Luke 2:41-52, John 5:30, John 6:38, John 17:4

Daily Thoughts: What did you get from today’s study?
Can you honestly state that the purpose of your life if to glorify God? If you could not answer yes, what takes priority over glorifying God?

  1. What I got out of this study... it gave me an example! I love examples. And I see that Jesus prayed a lot, which is a way for God to reveal His will. I also see that Jesus talked about God's will for Him a lot. I think I need to remember that, and be reminded of that a lot too. To be able to stop before an action and think, "is this pleasing to God, would it go according to His will?" But the second question, I'm not completely sure. I know that I put God first in my life, but I know there are times when I mess up. I get mad at Shane or Amanda, I say something mean, messing up like that. But I actually do something to turn from that. Because getting mad at my brother and sister everyday and saying something mean or any other sin is definitely not pointing a good finger towards God or glorifying Him.

  2. 1 John 1:5-9
'God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkenss, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.'

Megan, you are walking in the light and your life IS glorifying God, but we all sin daily, and we all mess up...but through God's mercy he forgives us and makes us pure and holy in His sight! Just keep walking in the light!
