Week 2 Day 4: It's an on-going struggle

You may think that you are the only person who struggles with knowing God’s will. Perhaps you think that people in Bible times whom God used to accomplish His purposes automatically knew exactly what God wanted them to do and never considered their own preferences. You may think that their lives were easy because they chose God’s way.

Read how Moses, Jesus and Paul willingly suffered in order to follow God’s will.

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. Hebrews 11:25-27

Jesus withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." Luke 22:41-42

Paul said, If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless. But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ. Philippians 3:4-8

In each of these verses, each person displayed three components of doing God’s will:
1. A vision of God’s purpose for your life
2. A commitment of your entire personality to God
3. Actions based on God’s provision for doing His will

How can you be conformed to God’s likeness? Romans 8:29 says “Those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.” This verse says that if God’s will is accomplished in your life, you will be conformed to the likeness of Christ, God’s Son. You will act like Him, will think like Him, and will have the kind of relationships with God and others that Christ did. You will have Him at the center of your life, and you will yield to the Holy Spirit’s leading in your life.

Daily Thoughts: What did you get from today’s study?

What is the most difficult thing for you in your effort to do God’s will?
