The theme verse for understanding God’s will is Philippians 2:13. “It is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” But sin is a key element that keeps you from doing God’s will.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Romans 6:12
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. Galatians 5:16-18
In the beginning… soon after the creation, another spiritual being entered God’s good creation. Humanity succumbed to Satan’s temptation and disobeyed God. A different aspect of the spiritual nature entered the personality of human beings. That aspect is called the flesh. The Bible uses the word flesh in two ways. The general meaning is body, referring to the physical body. The other meaning is symbolic, referring to the “lower” spiritual nature. It refers to the human capacity to sin and to follow Satan instead of God. You need to daily make the decision to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit…. In fact it is more of a constant decision. Satan will always be looking to tempt you into following him.

I love all of these verses! Tom has been using the Philippians 2:13 quite a bit, and Tom pointed out Wednesday how God is "workING" in us. He doesn't stop! I love that. How there are times when I think God isn't moving and I get that down feeling because I think I'm going nowhere when really, God is still moving and working in my life.
ReplyDeleteThis study has made me more aware of God's will for my life by showing me how to look for it, and giving me verses to read about it, and a place to start and actually ask God what he wants. There is nothing I want more than to please God, and this study has outlined points and verses that have really helped me on the right path in the constant journey to complete God's will for my life.
Based on this study, I think God's will for my life is obviously to live for Him and by His spirit and His word, the wonderful guides He has placed in my posession. So many things come up in this study about living according to God, and not falling into sin, and while there are specific parts in God's will for everyone such as who you are going to marry and what you are going to do for a living, the ultimate purpose is to surrender my life to Him, and turn away from my sinful nature.
