Day 2: Are you in control?

You may think that you are in control of your will, but your sinful nature may prevent you from doing good. God wants you to do right, but He leaves that ultimate choice to you. In making your choice, you can choose good or evil. God wants you to choose His way, and His heart breaks when you choose ways that turn you away from Him.

God does not omit anyone in accomplishing His will. Every person is included in the scope of God’s will. 2 Peter 3:9 says “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance”. When a person becomes a Christian, the Holy Spirit begins revealing to that person God’s will for his or her life. If you have life in the Spirit, you will experience this type of activity in your life.

When you think about finding God’s will for your life, you may wonder where to begin. You may feel that you cannot think God’s thoughts or learn what He has in store for you. God wants to teach you how He reveals His will and how you can do His will. Doing God’s will begins when you have a vision of God and His purpose for your life and are open to letting the Holy Spirit teach you. Your purpose for living is to bring glory to God so that His name will be praised. You can find God’s will by regularly reading His Word and spending time with Him in prayer.

Ephesians 1:5-6, 12-14 “He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will – to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession – to the praise of his glory.”

Daily Thoughts: What did you get from today’s study?
Has the Holy Spirit started to reveal God’s will in your life since you have been a Christian?
If yes, what changes did you feel that you needed to make in your life?

  1. The Holy Spirit started to reveal God's will for my life in the summer going into the 7th grade. I was not the best person I could be. Especially when I claimed to be a Christ follower. I hung out with bad kids, cussed at school, was mean to my family (of course not cussing at home...) and on top of all that, I was the one who sat at youth and had everyone fooled. Long story short, when I finally realized how nasty and full of sin my life became, I repented and started my journey in re-living my life for Him. Over time I was called to be a small group leader for Children's Ministry, a small group leader for Student Ministry and to become a part of the worship team. I probably would have never been able to do those things--at least in a God pleasing way--if I was still the person I was before. The summer going into the 9th grade, in just reading God's Word and praying, I just felt God tell me that "dating" in the 8th grade was too young (haha, Tom said that last night.) 16, which was what my parents had originally set, would have to be fine with me. God revealed to me that I needed my middle school years and some high school years before I turned 16 to build my faith before I even had a relationship, and get used to highschool in itself, because my faith, my family, and my serving ministry and school came before dating, and if highschool ended up being tough, I needed to make sure I didn't drop a priority in order to keep "dating." I'm in no way forgetting about that one, and I pray about it every day. I look at my parents and Tom and Lauren, and I want my relationship to be Christ-centered. Which I know is God's will for my life. So if that takes longer than when I turn 16, then that's what I want to do also. Anyways, God has revealed a lot to me in my life. And a lot of things I never expected to ever happen. But these changes brought me closer to God, and closer to His will, and even though they seem hard, God definitely will bless you in the long run. He's definitely blessed me.

  2. It is so cool to know that God's love for us is patient and that He has a plan for EVERYONE! But its so sad when you think of all of the people you know that aren't following God and what they are missing out on... but even still God will never give up on them. For me, over the years, the Holy Spirit continues to reveal new things in my life that need to be tailored to God's will. Things that were revealed to me in my teenage years are much different than those things that I feel today. Christian music was one of the biggest things I recall the Holy Spirit revealing to me when I didnt even know it existed, but has been such a blessing to enjoy something I love and is also a way to worship and draw closer to God. It is comforting to know that we are never done growing and that the Holy Spirit continues to mold us to be more like Christ daily!

  3. the holy spirit has deffinately revealed God will to me since ive became a christian. I go to a christian school everyday and i just tired hearing the same thing everyday and the people around me all seemed the same. When I started hanging out with the Shadrons and David Shadron in the year of 2008 I started going to church and getting involed with the youth and it was so much differant, i saw this light in them that i loved. I asked for forgiveness from God and started over.

A big change i needed to make in my life was the people i was hanging out with.I was out late, never home, and carried a attitude. hanging with them i wasnt getting any closer in my relationship with God. It was deffiantely hard for me to seperate myself from them but God helped me and along the way God reveled me a great christian friend that is really my friend, and helps me so much.(Megan)
